Confessions

Confession 1: I have always wanted to take professional cake decorating classes. When I was a teenager I went to church with a couple of professional cake decorators. Each generously shared their talents at separate times to give a “basics” class to the young women in our group. Both times I was completely enamored; I wanted to do that! I wanted to make those incredible roses and that smooth cake surface. I could picture myself spending hours carefully decorating my own children’s cakes with incredible themes. And, yes, I planned to occasionally create the wedding cake of the bride’s dream.
When I became a Mom I did actually create the best cakes I could with my limited skills. Some of them were really cute, some very clever, all quite amateur. But I enjoyed it and it was a ton of fun.
I am still looking for the opportunity to take actual lessons but, in the mean time, I have decided to move forward with self-teaching. *sigh* A bit of fear here, but I’m moving forward just the same. I have the time and am working on my “No Fear” attitude. Still, when I’m in Arizona and need a professional cake, I think I’ll just hire my niece at Baked Bliss (and you should too!).
Confession 2: I have a growing interest in assemblage art; particularly in jewelry pieces. I had never even heard of this amazing art form until recently when I came across a copy of Artful Blogging magazine and visited a featured blog “speak without my voice” by Azirca. I have long had a hard time with ‘random’. I tend to follow patterns and sketches precisely. But I have been working to overcome that and be more of a self-creator. Assemblage art is so beautiful and I love that it creates something new out of formerly loved objects. Gives new life.
Like me. I’m in a new life that I could never have imagined before. It’s a great time for new challenges and adventures. Perhaps it’s time to add cake decorating and assemblage art to that life and see what happens.
