Heartistic Desires

Homemaking is an Art of the Heart and Soul.

TGIF

Posted By Cori on October 9, 2009

Sundays are, perhaps, my favorite day of the week. I believe in the holiness of the Sabbath and I keep it as such. Therefore, I do no shopping, cleaning or work on Sundays. Sundays are reserved for worship, family, and renewal (read: afternoon nap!).

Ahhh… but Fridays!

Fridays are definitely my next favorite and holy in their own way. I just love the feel of Fridays. Fridays are preparation and nourishment and play. Fridays are romantic. On Fridays I like to light candles and play music and put on my favorite movies – all day – while I clean.

Twenty-some years ago, this was not exactly how I pictured Fridays. Fridays are for parties and romance.

But now I realize that someone has to straighten up before the party and romance is much more romantic when the dust is gone.

So… this is my Friday days. I nourish my surroundings; my home. And I realize now that this is BETTER than the fairy tales. Cleaning is not my favorite thing, but I clean because I love and am loved.

That makes it more than just okay; that makes it worth it!

At this time of the year what’s better than playing in the leaves with a child? Or acting like a child. This was taken last year when we still lived near our family and they could come spend the afternoon and evening on Fridays. Fridays are great for an impromptu pizza dinner and relaxing in the yard when the chores are done.

Or a romantic dinner for two. Garret and I like to cook dinner together on Friday nights; steaks on the grill, tacos, whatever-we-throw-together. We’re together; that’s what counts.

And a little late night treat; hot cocoa when it’s cold outside. Take a minute to make it a little more special. Add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder or pumpkin pie spice to the cocoa. Then add a marshmallow or marshmallow creme or whipped creme. Then shave a bit of chocolate on top and another dash of spice. It takes about two more minutes but makes it so much more special.

Fridays are about love. About doing things with love. I am loved well by many, including Deity. It is a small thing to return that gift by doing even the mundane things of life with great love.

Have a great weekend!

You put a whole different spin on Fridays. For me it is I survived the week of work and we go out to grab a bit to eat and then go home and relax. I don’t dare just sit and watch TV because I’ll be asleep in 10 minutes. But Richard and I do enjoy that bite to eat together. He still hasn’t noticed his fall curtains, or he hasn’t said so. Question how do you stay so skinny with all the good stuff you make and eat!
